Just five new COVID cases in Lethbridge Sunday, 391 across Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Following an update that revealed COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped below 500 in Alberta, the province reported just 391 new cases Sunday.

The new infections bring Alberta’s total case count to 227,246 with 8,073 of those listed as active. 446 people are in hospital, with 138 in intensive care units (ICU). 216,954 people have recovered from COVID-19.

Five new deaths were reported, bringing Alberta’s count to 2,219 deaths. On Saturday, May 29, 6,586 tests were completed, meaning 4,522,783 tests have been administered in the province to date, with 2,141,139 people having been tested.

As of May 29, 2,759,729 vaccine doses have been administered. As of end of day on May 29, 62.3 per cent of the population 12 years and older in Alberta has received at least one dose of vaccine (equating to 53 per cent of the province’s total population).

10.2 per cent of people in Alberta 12 and up have been fully vaccinated (equating to 8.7 per cent of the total population in the province).

In West Lethbridge, 61.8 per cent of the total population (12 and up) has received at least one dose. 8.3 per cent have been fully immunized.

In North Lethbridge, 58 per cent of people 12 and up have gotten at least one shot, while 10.1 per cent have been fully immunized.

For South Lethbridge, 62.2 per cent of those aged 12 and up have received at least one dose, with 16.2 per cent of people on the south side having gotten both of their vaccine doses.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in the province:

  • Calgary Zone – 92,359 cases, 3,301 active
    • 170 in hospital, 51 in ICU
    • 675 deaths (four new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 76,682 cases, 2,126 active
    • 152 in hospital, 56 in ICU
    • 1,080 deaths
  • North Zone – 25,697 cases, 1,172 active
    • 47 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 180 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 20,187 cases, 974 active
    • 49 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 154 deaths
  • South Zone – 12,303 cases, 496 active
    • 28 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 130 deaths

The province lists 18 cases (four active) in zones cited as ‘unknown’.

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 4,799 cases (five new), 140 active, 38 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,760 cases (three new), 64 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,601 cases, 31 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,437 cases (two new), 45 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,488 cases, 33 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,237 cases (one new), 41 active, 12 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,222 cases (eight new), 90 active, 22 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,021 cases, 24 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 570 cases, 17 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 460 cases (one new), 36 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 302 cases, 11 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 317 cases, 14 active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 293 cases, 30 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 230 cases, 22 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 156 cases (one new), two active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 82 cases, 14 active, one death
  • Waterton – Five cases, four active, zero deaths
