Outbreaks listed at five Lethbridge schools, alerts at two

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge School Division has provided an update on COVID-19 cases since the return of in-classroom learning.

There are currently outbreaks at five schools and alerts at two schools.

An ‘outbreak’ is declared when there are five or more confirmed cases in an investigation, where the disease could have been acquired of transmitted in the school. The outbreak investigation is considered over when there have been no new confirmed cases in the school for 28 days.

For an ‘alert’, parents are notified by their child’s school when a single confirmed case and when multiple confirmed cases are identified at their child’s school. The alert investigation is considered over when there have been no new confirmed cases in the school for 28 days.

The division is also tracking active cases of COVID-19 in its schools.

According to the division, schools currently on ‘outbreak’ status include:

  • Galbraith Elementary School – 16 cases (zero active)
  • Immanuel Christian Elementary School – 10 cases (zero active)
  • Senator Buchanan Elementary School – five cases (zero active)
  • Senator Fairbairn Middle School – 13 cases (one active)
  • Winston Churchill High School – 23 cases (two active)

Schools currently on ‘alert’ status include:

  • Chinook High School – one case (one active)
  • Coalbanks Elementary School – one case (zero active)
