Cyber attack impacts operations at JBS meat plant in Brooks

Jun 2, 2021 | 12:38 PM

BROOKS, AB – Livestock slaughter was temporarily stopped earlier this week at the JBS meat-packing plant in Brooks following a cyber attack on the company.

According to the JBS Canada Facebook page, all A-shift harvest and fabrication is back up and running Wednesday.

JBS is the largest meat-packing company in the world, and the cyber attack also affected operations at other facilities across Canada, as well as in the U.S. and Australia.

If the disruptions continue, consumers could see higher meat prices during the summer grilling season and meat exports could be disrupted at a time of strong demand from China.
