COALDALE, AB – The Town of Coaldale has its first candidate running for the community’s mayor this fall.

Henry Doeve comes into the race with a wealth of experience in Lethbridge County’s council.

“I’ve been a Lethbridge County Councillor for 10 years, I was Deputy Reeve for nine of those 10 years, I’ve been on many boards. I’ve been involved with different boards and commissions for 25+ years and a lot of those in leadership positions.”

“The experience is there and the desire to serve is there.”

He and his family used to live in Lethbridge County, but when they sold their dairy farm six years ago, they moved to Coaldale.

Doeve told LNN that he has always had a passion for leading and building communities. He hopes to bring that same attitude to Coaldale Town Council.

“I think just providing good, sound leadership that listens and just to build on the community, make Coaldale that community that people will want to be part of that love to live there, and you know, to have leadership that listens to the citizens.”

One initiative that has kept Doeve busy in recent years is the Cor Van Raay LINK Pathway, a cycling and walking trail connecting Coaldale and Lethbridge.

He says he loves the idea of it because, once it is constructed, it would give people of both communities a place to recreate outdoors that would not cost families anything.

Coaldale is guaranteed a new mayor this fall as Kim Craig will not be running for re-election.
