City of Lethbridge not hosting traditional Canada Day festivities in 2021

Jun 3, 2021 | 1:57 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – For the second year in a row, residents of Lethbridge will have to make their own fun for Canada Day.

While COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted across Alberta, the city says the pandemic continues to have an “unprecedented effect” on the community.

As a result, there will be no fireworks or public events provided by the City of Lethbridge at Henderson Park or Galt Gardens on July 1.

Instead, the city is encouraging residents to “celebrate in your own backyard,” suggesting a few ways you can do that:

  • Decorate your sidewalk, home, or business using a Canada Day theme. If you email a photo to leisure@lethbridge.ca, you will be entered to win a prize
  • Pre-order a BBQ kit from the Interfaith Food Bank by June 25. More details on their website or you can call 403-320-8779
  • Celebrate Indigenous Culture at the Yates Memorial Theatre from June 27 to July 1 with a Canada Day Indigenous Celebration Exhibit. There will be a different video each day highlighting Indigenous culture

The city will also be offering Canada Day activity bags starting June 22 at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre, both branches of the Lethbridge Public Library, Galt Museum, and city hall.

If you are unable to pick up an activity bag, you will be able to download one here.
