Active COVID cases less than 1/5 of third-wave peak one month ago

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Sunday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics compiled over the last 24 hours.

231 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 229,192. Of those, 4,884 cases are active while 222,062 people have recovered.

Active cases are now less than one-fifth of what they were at the peak of the third wave on May ninth, declining from 25,184.

In the South Zone, only five people tested positive.

Active infections in Lethbridge fell by 11 and regionally by 25 across the South Zone.

AHS did not report a single COVID-19 death anywhere in Alberta.

Provincially, 360 patients are currently hospitalized including 96 who have been admitted to intensive care.

3,057,662 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered as of the end of June 5.

With another 5,337 tests conducted over the past day, there has now been a total of 4,564,551 tests completed on 2,151,642 different people.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 93,147 cases, 1,997 active
    • 140 in hospital, 35 in ICU
    • 680 deaths
  • Edmonton Zone – 77,198 cases, 1,315 active
    • 116 in hospital, 37 in ICU
    • 1,094 deaths
  • North Zone – 25,994 cases, 677 active
    • 37 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 184 deaths
  • Central Zone – 20,452 cases, 632 active
    • 38 in hospital, 10 in ICU
    • 158 deaths
  • South Zone – 12,389 cases, 263 active
    • 29 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 130 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 4,821 cases (three new), 73 active, 38 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,766 cases (one new), 37 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,606 cases, 14 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,448 cases (two new), 22 active, 24 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,494 cases, 17 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,250 cases (one new), 30 active, 12 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 1,238 cases (one new), 47 active, 22 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,026 cases, nine active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 571 cases, six active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 464 cases, 18 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 305 cases, five active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 319 cases, seven active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 295 cases, 15 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 240 cases, 21 active, two deaths
