Residents advised of multiple road closures as crews at work this week in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Residents in Lethbridge are being reminded of construction work and road closures this week.

20 Avenue South is closed between 36 Street South and Beech Road South for crews can complete a water valve repair. Crews will then move on to the 3400 block of 20 Avenue South, which will at that time be closed between 35 Street South and Lakemount Boulevard South. This work is set to be finished by the end of day June 11, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to drive with caution in the area and follow posted detours.

Also, effective today, June 7, there will be a rotating partial road closure on the bridge deck of westbound Whoop-Up Drive for crews to work on bridge washing and maintenance.

That work will span three days with one lane closed per day from 4:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The city says traffic can still travel westbound. The rotating lane closures will be in this order:

  • Monday, June 7 – outside lane (farthest north lane)
  • Tuesday, June 8 – middle lane
  • Wednesday, June 9 – inside lane (farthest south lane)

Additionally, there will be closures in a number of locations this week for crews to work on paving.

  • On Monday, June 7 and Tuesday, June 8, there will be a full closure on northbound University Drive between Heritage Boulevard West and Highlands Road West. Detours will be in place.
  • On Wednesday, June 9 and Thursday, June 10, there will be a road closure on southbound University Drive between Walsh Drive West and Highlands Boulevard West. Two-way traffic will be maintained, and detours will be in place.
  • On Friday, June 11, there will be a road closure on westbound South Parkside Drive South from Fern Crescent South to 28 Street South. Two-way traffic will be maintained, and detours will be in place.
  • On Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13, there will be a full road closure on Bridge Drive West from the turnoff to the Bridge Valley Golf Course to the Highway 3 eastbound on-ramp. There will be local access only to the gold course from the University Drive turnoff. Detours will be in place.

The city notes that all work timelines are weather permitting.
