Albertans who got vaccinated in April can book 2nd doses now, earlier than anticipated

LETHBRIDGE, AB – If you got your first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in April, you are now able to book your second shot.

Premier Jason Kenney says Alberta is advancing along the vaccine distribution program faster than anticipated due to greater amounts of vaccine doses being shipped to the province.

“We have made remarkable progress. Albertans have worked incredibly hard to crush the spike and get vaccinated against COVID-19. But we still have work to do. Albertans need to continue to sign up, show up and follow up for all first and second doses so we can finally put this pandemic behind us.”

Initially, Albertans aged 12 and up who got their first dose in the month of April would be able to book their second dose starting on Monday, June 14.

Instead, this can be done now.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro says this means that another 650,000 Albertans are now eligible to become fully immunized.

There are no changes being announced for those who got immunized in May. Second doses for those people will begin June 28.

The province is also asking snowbirds to submit their COVID-19 vaccine info to Alberta Health Services.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro expects that several people in the province went to other countries and got vaccinated there.

“The best vaccine is the first one offered, and I am pleased that there are many Albertans who made the choice to be vaccinated while vacationing away from home. We are determined to make sure that every Albertan, no matter where they were vaccinated, is able to access their records via their MyHealth Records account.”

Shandro reports that about 16 per cent of Albertans are now fully vaccinated compared to the national average of around 11 per cent.

This can be done by bringing a copy of their immunization records to one of the 141 AHS public health clinics located throughout the province.
