Rodeo participants and workers receive quarantine exemption for Calgary Stampede

Jun 11, 2021 | 11:10 AM

CALGARY, AB – Performers and staff have been issued a travel exemption for the 2021 Calgary Stampede Rodeo.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said this means the “historic celebration of our western roots will be able to take place this year” and that “nothing represents the Stampede more than the bulls and broncs of the Calgary Stampede Rodeo.”

Workers traveling to Calgary for the summer event will not have to quarantine at a government-approved hotel after crossing the border. Instead, they will underdo a modified quarantine and follow all local and provincial guidelines.

He stated that, “Like Alberta itself, the Stampede has persevered through floods, fires and much more. However, last year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was impossible to have people gather safely.”

“Now, with vaccines on our side and Albertans lining up to get protected, we can add a global pandemic to the many obstacles the Stampede has overcome.”

The Premier noted that Alberta is closing in on the 70 per cent threshold for Stage 3 of the “Open for Summer Plan” that will end public health restrictions.

“If you have not booked your first dose, please sign up today at alberta.ca/vaccine so we can all have a truly great Alberta summer at the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. Yahoo!”

The 2021 Calgary Stampede is set to take place July 9 and 18.
