TABER, AB. — An incident that began with an attempted traffic stop in Taber around 2:10 Wednesday (June 16) morning, turned into a search for the culprit.

Taber officers attempted to pull over a car for a vehicle infraction. Although the driver eventually pulled over, he then fled from police at a high rate of speed. However, an officer was able to identify the driver before he fled and a pursuit wasn’t initiated.

The car was located a short time later with the same driver and when officers tried to block the vehicle in to prevent a pursuit, the suspect reversed, striking one of the police vehicles and then fled, again at a high rate of speed.

The officer wasn’t injured and a pursuit was initiated, but quickly terminated for public safety.

On Thursday, Taber police located the driver and arrested him.

Colin Alexander Meissner, aged 25, is facing two counts of Flight from Police, two counts of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Assaulting a police officer with a weapon and Failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Meissner was released by a Justice of the Peace, with conditions, and is scheduled to appear in Taber Provincial Court on August 3, 2021.
