LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will return to the ENMAX Centre ice on Friday, October 1.

The Dairy Queen Home Opener for the 2021-2022 regular season will see the ‘Canes host the Calgary Hitmen.

It will be just the fifth time in franchise history that Lethbridge opens its regular season against Calgary, with just one of those games having been played on the Hurricanes’ home ice. Lethbridge opened the 2002-2003 season with a 6-2 win against the Hitmen on September 20, 2002 at the ENMAX Centre.

In four prior season openers against Calgary, the Hurricanes have posted a record of 2-1-0-0 with one tie. During the shortened 2020-2021 season, Lethbridge posted a record of 2-3-1-0 in six games against the Hitmen, including a 1-2-0-0 record in three games at the ENMAX Centre.

Earlier this week, the Western Hockey League (WHL) announced that it will be conducting a full 68-game regular season for the 2021-2022 year and will begin the season on October 1, “with an expected full-capacity, fan-friendly and safe environment throughout all WHL markets”.

More details on a full schedule for the Hurricanes, as well as training camp and exhibition dates, will be announced at a later date.
