LETHBRIDGE, AB – Albertans are in for a true reason to celebrate on Canada Day – the lifting of nearly all COVID-19 restrictions in the province.

Premier Jason Kenney made the announcement Friday as 70.2 percent of Albertans aged 12 and up have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

“This is a great day for Alberta! Thanks to the diligence of Albertans and the decision of 2.7 million folks to get vaccinated, we are now just two weeks away from getting our lives back to normal. This is an important milestone and a great achievement, but we will not stop here. We will keep administering first and second doses as quickly as possible so we’re not just open for summer, but open for good.”

Stage 3: Two weeks after 70% of Albertans 12+ (born in 2009 or earlier) have received at least one dose. Effective July 1.

  • All restrictions lifted, including the ban on indoor social gatherings
  • Isolation requirements for confirmed cases of COVID-19 and some protective measures in continuing care settings remain
  • The general indoor provincial mask mandate will be lifted, but masking may still be required in limited and specific settings
  • More information will be shared prior to the start of Stage 3

The provincial government recently announced the Open for Summer Vaccine Lottery, where everyone who has been at least partially immunized can enter to win one of three $1-million jackpots or a variety of travel prizes.

With Stage 3 set to start at the beginning of July, the winner of the first lottery draw will happen on July 1. You can register any time before 11:59 pm on June 24.
