LETHBRIDGE, AB – According to the previous Canadian Census, 845 Lethbridge residents did not have knowledge of English or French, and 30 residents had knowledge of only French.

In light of those findings, the Lethbridge Language Assessment and Referral Centre officially opened in Lethbridge on June 10, 2021, and provides in-person and virtual English language assessment and referrals to English classes.

This service is provided free of charge to Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees and Naturalized Citizens and is funded by the Canadian provincial and federal government.

With over 12,330 immigrants living in Lethbridge, language proficiency is highly important for success at work and in society in general.

Hanne Brahim, Manager of Language Assessment and Referral Centre says “we are thrilled about the opening of the new Language Assessment and Referral Centre in Lethbridge.”

“There are many immigrants and refugees in the area who would like to access this service in person and it is an honor for us to be able to serve them. The assessment centre is now open and in-person appointments have already started.”

“This free service ensures that clients have easy access to language services that empower them to reach the goals they set for themselves and reach their full potential,” Brahim adds.

The centre will attempt to “unleash the economic, social and civic potential of newcomers, and the service provided by Lethbridge Language Assessment and Referral Centre aims to facilitate that.”

Lethbridge residents who wish to access language services can register at https://settlementcalgary.com/clarc-registration/.
