Lethbridge property taxes due by Wednesday
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is reminding residents that property taxes are due this week.
Property owners are asked that if they can pay all or at least part of their taxes by Wednesday, June 30 to do so. This spring, City Council approved changes to 2021 property tax penalties by approving an additional 92-day deferral of tax levies and reducing penalties for 2021 tax accounts to help residents impacted by COVID-19.
Taxpayers have extra time to pay in full by September 30, but any outstanding property tax balances as of October 1 will have a three per cent penalty applied, which amounts to $30 for every $1,000 in outstanding property taxes. The penalty is four per cent on November 1 and five per cent on December 1. More details regarding this are available here.
The tax deadline and penalties are not applicable to property owners who pay monthly through the City of Lethbridge’s Tax Installment Prepayment Plan (TIPP). TIPP reduces tax with a 0.75 per cent annual discount credit.
