Hurricanes select two forwards in CHL Import Draft

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have selected two forwards in the CHL Import Draft.

18-year-old Yegor Klavdiev was picked with the 11th overall pick. The product out of Minsk, Belarus recorded 11 points (six goals, five assists), along with 13 penalty minutes in 24 regular season games with the Belarus Under-18 team. He played an additional 13 regular season games with Dinamo-Molodechno of the Belarusian ExtraLeague A, where he scored two goals and record two assists. He added three points in five playoff games.

Hurricanes GM Peter Anholt said, “after watching Klavdiev at the World Under-18 Championship in Dallas this spring, we liked what we were able to see and hot a good sense of what his potential could be.”

“We think he will be able to fit into our forward group for next season.”

Klavdiev also suited up with Minskie Zubry for one regular season game, along with seven post-season appearances where he totaled six points (two goals, four assists) and four penalty minutes. The forward also collected three points (one goal, two assists) and four penalty minutes representing Belarus at the World Under-18 Championships. In 2019-2020, he appeared in 34 games with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League, collected six points.

17-year-old Peter Repcik was selected with the 115th overall pick by Lethbridge. Originally from Kosice, Slovakia, he skated in 27 games in 2020-2021 with the Team Slovakia Under-18 squad, totalling 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) along with 20 penalty minutes. He also skated in three games with Slovakia’s Under-20 team, picking up two assists. He picked up five points (four goals, one assist) and two penalty minutes in three games internationally with the Under-18 Slovakia team.

Anholt stated that, “we’re happy to get Repcik where we did and to be able to add to our 2004 age group.”

“He has some skill and we think he has the potential to eventually be a good player at our level.”

Repcik racked up 80 points (35 goals, 45 assists) along with 34 penalty minutes and a plus-43 rating in 2019-2020 with the HC Kosice Under-18 team in the Slovakia Under-18 league. He also had two goals in 13 matchups with Slovakia’s Under-16 team in 2019-2020.

The Hurricanes will open their 2021-2022 regular season on Friday, October 1 when they host the Calgary Hitmen at the ENMAX Centre.
