LETHBRIDGE, AB – Another significant milestone in Alberta’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) reports that 50.7 per cent of eligible Albertans have received two doses of a COVID vaccine with more than 4.6 million shots administered in total.

“Thank you to the 2.8 million Albertans who have done the right thing by sticking it to COVID,” says Premier Jason Kenney. “Thanks to their diligence, we have been able to open for summer. As our vaccination rate continues to climb, so does the prospect of Alberta being open for good. Let’s keep up the great work to keep our families, our communities and our province safe.”

As well, 73.6 per cent of people 12 years or older in the province have gotten at least one dose.

A list of what percentage of eligible Southern Albertans by community are fully immunized can be found below:

  • South Lethbridge – 63.5%
  • North Lethbridge – 58.3%
  • West Lethbridge – 55.2%
  • Medicine Hat – 54.3%
  • Crowsnest Pass – 50.3%
  • Pincher Creek – 47.6%
  • Lethbridge County – 45.3%
  • Cypress County – 44.1%
  • County of Warner – 42.2%
  • Fort MacLeod – 41.5%
  • Newell – 41.5%
  • Cardston-Kainai – 32.7%
  • M.D. of Taber – 32.5%
  • County of Forty Mile – 27.5%

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says anyone who has received an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) for their first dose can book a second shot four weeks later.

“COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and can be used interchangeably for adults. It is important for Albertans to get the added protection of a second dose for themselves and those around them. Please take the earliest second-dose appointment available, regardless of brand.”

Those who got immunized from AstraZeneca for their first dose should wait at least eight weeks to book their second one to ensure maximum protection.
