Province provides $1.6 million for ambulance garage addition at Claresholm Hospital

CLARESHOLM, AB – The ambulance garage at the Claresholm General Hospital is getting an upgrade.

Through the province’s Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program, $1.6 million will go towards building an addition to the facility’s garage. This addition will accommodate current and future ambulance requirements at the site.

Construction work is expected to start in the coming months, with a more detailed timeline to be provided once work has started.

Alberta’s Health Minister Tyler Shandro stated that, “no matter where you live in the province, it’s important that your healthcare needs can be met as close to home as possible.”

“This project helps make that a reality, and is part of our commitment to manage and improve health infrastructure and services across Alberta.”

Through the Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program, the province has committed $50 million to support Alberta Health Services in completing infrastructure projects over the next three years at rural sites, like in Claresholm.

MLA for Livingston-Macleod Roger Reid said, “investments like this one in rural Alberta are an important part in ensuring Albertans have access to healthcare facilities that are safe and secure; places that provide high-quality care when they or their loved ones are sick or injured.”

Meanwhile, AHS President and CEO Dr. Verna Yiu said, “projects like these help maintain our facilities and ensure our patients receive quality care in the best environments.”

“So it is vital we keep our healthcare infrastructure current and up to date.”

A further $900,000 of government Infrastructure Maintenance Program (IMP) funding has recently supported other upgrades at the Claresholm General Hospital, including the replacement of a roof and elevator.
