Two behind-the-scenes people from Lethbridge part of Tampa’s Stanley Cup win

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Tampa Bay Lightning won their second consecutive Stanley Cup Wednesday, and they were aided by two people from Lethbridge.

The Western Hockey League says, overall, 11 WHL alumni were part of Tampa’s championship victory.

Players that have taken part in at least one regular-season game with the Lightning this year include:

  • Forward Tyler Johnson (Spokane, Wash. / Spokane Chiefs)
  • Forward Brayden Point (Calgary, Alta. / Moose Jaw Warriors)
  • Defenceman Cal Foote (Denver, Colo. / Kelowna Rockets)
  • Defenceman Luke Schenn (Saskatoon, Sask. / Kelowna Rockets)
  • Defenceman Ben Thomas (Calgary, Alta. / Vancouver Giants)

There were also several Hockey Operations staff with the Lightning that were formerly part of the WHL, two of whom are from Lethbridge:

  • Stacy Roest (Lethbridge, Alta. / Medicine Hat Tigers)
  • Jamie Pushor (Lethbridge, Alta. / Lethbridge Hurricanes)
  • Jason Berger (Philadelphia, Pa. / Seattle Thunderbirds)
  • Brad Whelen (Calgary Hitmen)
  • Grant Armstrong (North Delta, B.C. / Brandon Wheat Kings)
  • Josh Dye (Portland Winterhawks)

The WHL was also represented in the runners up, the Montreal Canadiens:

  • Forward Brendan Gallagher (Edmonton, Alta. / Vancouver Giants)
  • Defenceman Joel Edmundson (Brandon, Man. / Kamloops Blazers),
  • Defenceman Brett Kulak (Edmonton, Alta. / Vancouver Giants)
  • Defenceman Shea Weber (Sicamous, B.C. / Kelowna Rockets)
  • Goaltender Carey Price (Anahim Lake, B.C. / Tri-City Americans)
  • Pro Scout Reid Simpson (Flin Flon, Man. / Prince Albert Raiders)
