Police charge Lethbridge man in connection with “intentional” apartment fire

LETHBRIDGE, AB – After fire crews from three stations responded to reports of an apartment fire along the Ashgrove Road area in the south of the city Tuesday, a man has been charged.

Police have charged Stuward Sunchild, 26, of Lethbridge with arson.

At approximately 8:40 pm, crews were able to quickly extinguish a fire in the basement of the apartment which kept the blaze contained to one suite.

The city says the damages are estimated at approximately $100,000.

Sunchild also faces charges of assault and mischief in an unrelated incident that same date.

He has been remanded in custody to appear in court Friday, July 16, 2021.
