Lethbridge Police investigating multiple suspicious fires

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Police in Lethbridge are investigating a string of suspicious fires.

The LPS says the incidents all occurred in south Lethbridge. Police were notified of the first of five suspicious fires in the area of 43 Street and 20 Avenue South at about 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2021. The LPS did not provide further details.

In addition, police have added a fire in the coulees early Friday, July 16, 2021, to a series of suspicious fires they are investigating from the day previous.

Police also says they were called “in response to a grass fire Thursday, east of 43 Street near 20 Avenue South just after 11:20 a.m.”

There were several other fires in the area that were believed to have started within a short time span, including another about a block north on the west side of 43 Street.

“Also under investigation are several grass, fence, and recycling bin fires in the residential area directly west of 43 Street,” the release reads.

Anyone with information or security camera footage from that area is asked to contact the Lethbridge Police complaint line at 403-328-4444.

This is not the first time this year the city’s been hit with fires deemed suspicious.

On May 18, multiple 911 calls were reported in the city’s south end.

Afterwards, on May 30, crews responded to three fires.
