Workforce Training – connecting you back to the world of work

Jul 30, 2021 | 2:42 PM

A slump in the oil industry, compounded by shutdowns in various businesses and industries due to COVID-19, has left many Albertans unemployed or under employed.

A program funded by the Alberta and Federal governments aims to help with free training programs. Workforce Training offers programs that prepare potential employees to work in industries such as agriculture, construction, logistics, production / manufacturing, transportation and others. Individuals receive industry-recognized certifications and training that helps provide a transition to work.

Training Inc. assists with employable training and job search support and has been offering educational components for years, so they know the certifications that employees need to actually work in numerous industries and what employers need from their employees.

Tim Clark, the Career and Employment Counsellor/Manager at Training Inc., explains, “It’s important that prospective clients know that the training is free and they need to understand the target employments in the areas listed. They must also allow enough time to be entered into the program, as they need to meet the entrance requirements.”

Potential clients are required to go through an in-person eligibility screening with an intake officer, which usually takes about 3 weeks.

They are just starting in-take for the programs, as the first start date is August 30, with programs running every two months. Because it is a government funded program, there is a lot of administration, screening and receiving acceptance for students to enter the programs.
