AHS launches webpage with information on bed reductions in Alberta

Jul 31, 2021 | 8:34 AM

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has launched its new webpage, which provides information to Albertans on short-term and temporary bed reductions in their community.

According to AHS, the vast majority of all beds remain open and available for patient care.

The new webpage comes with a map, which could tell you directly how many hospital beds there are available in places like Red Deer and Lacombe.

As of July 30, AHS says they have 8,500 acute care beds across the province, with 98.2 per cent of those best currently open and available for patients.

While some may see that beds are temporarily closed on the website, it’s not uncommon for AHS to have to temporarily close of beds.

AHS says this is because of shifting staffing levels over the summer months, with many taking personal time or vacation.

The new webpage will be updated regularly and can be found at the AHS website.
