Man dead, another injured after residential break-in at Red Deer County home

RED DEER, AB – RCMP are investigating a fatal shooting in central Alberta.

On August 2 at around 3:10 p.m., Blackfalds RCMP received a complaint of a residential break and enter in progress off of C & E Trail in Red Deer County. On arrival, police found the homeowner injured and another man in the residence who had sustained a gunshot wound, who was later pronounced deceased by EMS.

The homeowner was taken to hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident. Blackfalds RCMP note that the investigation includes examination of the scene with the RCMP Forensic Identification Service, as well as interviews with witnesses.

Mounties reported that the initial investigation found that the deceased man had broken into the residence and an altercation took place with the homeowner. The homeowner has since been released from hospital and so far, police say no charges have been laid.
