COALDALE, AB – For the 2021 Coaldale Lethbridge Foodgrains Growing Project, local farmers were able to gather once again for their annual fundraiser and barbecue.

In the project’s history, over $1.8 million has been raised from 2006 to 2020.

It’s expected to bring in over $100,000 this year through donations, fundraising, and harvesting.

To give perspective, the 2020 (COVID Crop Year) raised $189,000 which is far better than what the committee expected.

Through the initiative, the federal government matches the fundraising pot four to one with contributing over 25 million throughout the years.

Held on Monday, over 200 locals came out to the event, bringing 16 combines, and several “Super B” trucks.

Organizers say it took only 1.5 hours to finish the field (Quarter section) and baling is now underway for the Barley that was harvested.

Deb Chapman with the Coaldale Lethbridge Foodgrains committee wanted to thank everyone for their generosity.

“We are grateful to the tireless volunteers who have stepped up to seed, apply chemical and fertilizer, irrigate, harvest, truck and bale!”

“We are thankful to you, for joining us today, for believing in the project, and for donating funds.”

At the end of the day, Chapman says she is proud of all the sponsors for putting together the event and providing food for all who came.
