LETHBRIDGE, AB – Hometown product Zack Stringer is heading to Regina in a trade with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Regina Pats.

The Hurricanes acquire the 10th overall selection in the 2021 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft for Stringer in what looks like a team rebuild.

Stringer, 18, was originally selected by the Hurricanes with the eighth overall pick in the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft.

“The Lethbridge, Alberta product appeared in 79 career regular-season games with the Hurricanes totaling 52 points (17g-35a) along with 34 penalty minutes. He added three points (1g-2a) in six WHL post-season games in 2019,” the release reads.

The Canes say during the shortened 2020-2021 season, Stringer collected 14 points (5g-9a) along with 10 penalty minutes in 23 games.

He also had a career-high 11 goals and 34 points in 48 games during the 2019-2020 season.

Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt says he recognizes what Stringer has provided for the team over the years.

“We’d like to thank Zack for his contributions to the Hurricanes organization, He has been a part of our organization since he was 15 and contributed to our club on a night in, night out basis. We wish him all the best in Regina.”

With the trade, the Hurricanes now hold two first-round selections (10th overall & 17th overall) in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.

The Canes open up their Pre-Season on Friday, September 17th when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers while the 2021-2022 regular season begins on Friday, October 1st against the Calgary Hitmen.
