Sergeant riding across Prairies to support PTSD program

MEDICINE HAT, AB. — A military sergeant from Wawanesa, Man. is riding a bicycle 1,000 kilometres from Manitoba to Lethbridge to raise awareness and money to help those dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder through Wounded Warriors Canada and the Support Dog Program.

Sgt. Rob Nederlof rode through Medicine Hat this morning – with an escort from the Medicine Hat Police Service along the way – on The Prairie Thousand ride.

Having seen his share of people suffering from PTSD as a veteran of three tours of duty, Sgt. Nederlof is hoping to raise $5,000 to pay for part of the $15,000 cost of raising and training a PTSD support dog.

He has been biking about 120 kilometres a day since leaving home last Wednesday, and the plan is to arrive in Lethbridge tomorrow.

Nederlof chose Lethbridge as the endpoint as he and his wife, who is travelling with him, have family there.
