LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge City Councillor Rob Miyashiro will not be running for this fall’s municipal election, but for the next provincial election.

Miyashiro announced he is seeking the Alberta NDP’s nomination for Lethbridge-East to become an MLA.

He says the decision was simple after serving two terms as a city councillor, the NDP is his next step.

“As a municipal leader, I’ve worked with PC governments, the NDP government, and the UCP Government. It’s clear to me that Rachel Notley has the best vision and the best approach to governing.”

Miyashiro went on to say what hasn’t worked for Lethbridge through the UCP government.

“Not only has Jason Kenney downloaded costs onto cities like Lethbridge, but he has also failed to deliver on his promise of economic prosperity and jobs.”

“Rachel is a good leader, she was a great Premier, and an NDP government will work for a truly diversified economy with good-paying jobs for our community for years to come,” he adds.

Miyashiro says he and MLA for Lethbridge-West Shannon Phillips will work well together if elected.

“I’m seeking the nomination for Lethbridge-East to join Shannon Phillips in the Legislature and be a voice for Lethbridge. With Kenney leaving the door open to coal mining in the Rockies, attacking doctors and nurses, and giving away billions to corporations while failing to create jobs – we need a better deal, and better representation at the provincial level.”

The next provincial election is in 2023.
