LETHBRIDGE, AB – Residents in Lethbridge held a rally to recognize the events that are currently happening in Afghanistan.

Locals in Afghanistan are evacuating the country due to the Taliban seizing power in the country, as the United States withdraws troops nearly 20 years after the war began.

In the wake of these events shortly over a week ago, a Lethbridge resident, who asked to remain nameless, decided to organize a rally for Monday evening.

She speaks on the importance of recognition of these events in the video below.

Following her speech, she and locals from Afghanistan say these actions by the Taliban are “unacceptable,” and she wants more action done by the world to help Afghans.

She said Afghans would like to see the following actions done.

1. Expand the Afghan resettlement program

2. Provide immediate humanitarian assistance and aid

3. Engage in productive diplomacy.

After her speech, she restated that the Taliban does not speak for all Afghans and that “this view of us is that Afghans are violent, we are peaceful, Muslims are peaceful.”

Nearly 45 people attended the rally in support of “justice and peace in Afghanistan.”
