The Lethbridge Jazz & Blues Festival provided LNN with the following information on the artists performing in the Blues Fest.

ARTISTS:

Paul Kype & Texas Flood
Texas Flood is committed to keeping the rockin’ blues alive. In 1993, Paul formed Texas Flood with Jerry Adolphe, veteran Vancouver drummer of well known bands “Chilliwack” and “Jim Byrnes”, and fellow club musician Simon Hardman. Since relocating to Alberta in 2004, Paul has continued to work steadily with Texas Flood and as of March 2014 has just released their new CD “Long Time Comin'”.

Jack Semple
Jack Semple writes and performs “Modern Blues” without forgetting where he came from. He is an epic guitarist and a soulful singer. His music is like Stevie Ray Vaughn meets James Brown meets Robben Ford. He is a Juno Award winner and Western Canadian Music Award winner.

The Rondel Roberts Band
The Rondel Roberts Band is a RnB group based out of Calgary, Alberta. Drawing inspiration from all their parent’s vinyl collections, after 7 years on stage, they have developed into a touchstone for everything that fearlessly feels good in soul and funk music. Reminiscent to the sounds of the record label Motown during the civil rights movement, the fun disco era in the 70’s, all the way to the experimental use of electronic synths in the 80’s, The Rondel Roberts Band’s songwriting and compositions adorn elements of classic genres but with a distinctive modern spin on them. Instantly nostalgic on first listen, the band has developed a sound derived from groovy rhythms, pocket deep bass lines, warm keyboards, glassy textures and introspective guitar parts topped with tenured and powerful vocals.

Satellite & The Harpoonist
As the great poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once stated, “The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain.” And so, in January 2020, as the city’s longest spell of precipitation in over five decades threatened to wash Vancouver into the Pacific, four musicians from disparate sonic territories did just that. Not that they had a say in the matter, they let it rain while gathering at Afterlife Studios to conduct an experiment as radical and historic as the weather outside. The triumphant result is an assured, robust new rock ‘n roll for a new decade.

Kat Danser & The Tall Tales
As an award-winning performer, Danser has graced the stages of some of Canada’s most prestigious events and venues including the Winnipeg, Calgary, Regina and Edmonton Folk Festivals as well as The Canadian Women in Blues at Massey Hall and the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues and Mountain View Music Festivals. In addition to being nominated four times for a Western Canadian Music Award, and a national Maple Blues Award and winning the Ambassador of the Blues Award and the Best Independent Blues Album from the International Blues competition, Danser has recently been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. As if that wasn’t enough, Danser is also a nationally award-winning scholar who has presented at conferences throughout North America. She has also been the Artist in Residence at the EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts in Calgary and facilitated music and healing courses for marginalized children and adults.
