1,168 COVID cases confirmed in Alberta Friday

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Alberta Health Services has released its report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,168 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 248,954. Of those, 9,655 cases are active while 236,935 people have recovered.

AHS reports that 73.46 per cent of these new cases have been among those who are unvaccinated or were diagnosed within two weeks of getting their first dose. The same is true for 77.98 per cent of hospitalizations.

In the South Zone, 95 people tested positive with 49 in Medicine Hat and 10 in Lethbridge.

Active infections regionally went up by 19.

Since yesterday’s update, four Albertans died from COVID with two in the North Zone and one each in the Calgary and Central Zones. To date, 2,364 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 336 patients are currently hospitalized including 74 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 100,601 cases, 2,838 active
    • 101 in hospital, 20 in ICU
    • 715 deaths (one new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 82,372 cases, 3,026 active
    • 117 in hospital, 30 in ICU
    • 1,114 deaths
  • North Zone – 29,101 cases, 1,666 active
    • 36 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 210 deaths (two new)
  • Cental Zone – 22,391 cases, 1,025 active
    • 37 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 180 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 14,356 cases, 1,074 active
    • 45 in hospital, 14 in ICU
    • 145 deaths

Below is a breakdown of new cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 5,129 cases (10 new), 160 active, 40 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,913 cases (three new), 82 active, four deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,682 cases (four new), 35 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,533 cases (three new), 43 active, 25 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 2,275 cases (49 new), 524 active, 28 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,607 cases (nine new), 64 active, 15 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,323 cases (four new), 36 active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,125 cases (seven new), 77 active, 20 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 622 cases (four new), 37 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 481 cases, six active, three deaths
  • Cypress County – 465 cases (six new), 79 active, one death
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 386 cases (two new), 31 active, five deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 331 cases (two new), eight active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 279 cases (two new), 21 active, three deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 173 cases (one new), 13 active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 95 cases, seven active, one death
