LETHBRIDGE, AB – The U of L’s women’s basketball coach is staying put.

Following a unique first season with the Pronghorns’ coaching staff, Paige Crozon is set to return to the team for a second season as the Lead Assistant Coach.

The team’s head coach Dave Waknuk says he’s thrilled to have Paige return to his staff.

“Paige’s passion, commitment, and work ethic match and strengthen our team, while her expansive experience as a player and desire to develop as a coach will immediately add great value to our program and our student-athletes’ development.”

Crozon is one of 16 coaches selected across the country in any sport to be named to the 2020 Canadian Association of Canada Enhanced Female Mentorship Program.

This summer, she served as an assistant coach with the Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). She’s also working with Aboriginal Friendship Centres in Saskatchewan to help create an Indigenous youth basketball league across the province. Crozon is the Central Coordinator for the league, which will feature a team in each urban community with a Friendship Centre.

As an athlete on the court, she played with the Canadian National program multiple times, including wearing the maple leaf at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, FISU Games in 2017, U17 Cade World Championships and at the U19 Junior World Championships.

Crozon is still a current member of Team Canada 3X3, just competing in a world series event in Romania and she was a member of Team Canada 3X3 that finished second overall in the 2018 Women’s Series.

Originally from Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Crozon was a four-year starter and two-year captain at the University of Utah in the NCAA. She was the Utes’ leading scorer in 2016 with 13.1 points per game and was their leading rebounder with 8.2 boards per matchup. She became the 27th player in the team’s history to score 1,000 career points.

Following her NCAA career, she played professionally for the Saarlouis Royals in the First Division of the German Women’s Professional Basketball League.

The Pronghorn women’s basketball team opens their training camp on August 30 and will see their first Canada West conference action on October 29 when they host the Calgary Dinos.
