90-point ride earns Zane Lambert huge victory at PBR Canada Cup Series event in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – After a close to nine-month hiatus from competition, Lethbridge hosted the elite PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Cup Series this weekend.

The ENMAX Centre hosted the two-day South Country Co-op Showdown, presented by VisitLethbridge.com Friday and Saturday evening. Two-time PBR Canada champion Zane Lambert of Ponoka, Alberta, clinched the event with a huge 90-point ride in the championship round.

The win catapulted him to the number-one rank in the race for the 2021 PBR Canada Championship, as well as the $50,000 bonus.

In the weekend’s opening round Friday, Lambert finished tied for first with an 84-point effort atop Gandy (Skori Bucking Bulls). Although Lambert was dispatched by Bob Rock (Skori Bucking Bulls) in a quick 1.84 seconds to start off Saturday night, he still secured a spot in the championship round.

His opponent for the final? Reigning PBR Canada Bull of the Year Catch My Drift (Two Bit Bucking Bulls/K Rose Ranch). In June, the veteran Canucks delivered the first 90-point ride of the Canadian season while riding the famous bovine athlete, scoring 91 points in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Replicating that success, Lambert matched the bull jump for jump and secured an event-best 90 points at the ENMAX Centre.

For his hard work, Lambert received 85.5 national points, taking him from ninth to first place in the country-wide rankings. The 35-year-old now leads number-two ranked Nick Tetz of Calgary by 1.34 points.

If Lambert wins the national championship by season’s end, he will tie three-time champion Aaron Roy of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan for most Canadian championships won by one rider in league history. Lambert won the title in both 2013 and 2017. Roy, meanwhile, was the top Canadian in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

Earning second place at the Lethbridge event was Callum Miller, from Warwick, Queensland, Australia. He earned 71 national points. Rounding out the weekend’s top three was Meeting Creek, Alberta’s Garrett Green, who went two-for-three to earn 58 national points.
