LETHBRIDGE, AB – Ben Christensen wants to bring a sense of community back to Lethbridge.

Christensen is one of the candidates for Lethbridge City Council in this year’s municipal election.

He told LNN that, “I’m not really happy with the state of our current leadership in Lethbridge” and believes the city has become divided when it comes to local politics.

“It’s time for folks to bring that sense of community that we sort of lost back to Lethbridge.”

Christensen said he has three main goals in his bid for a council seat, with one being to address social issues like “homelessness, addictions, [and] the opioid crisis.”

“I’ve also had a focus on looking at revising programs like photo radar to see if they can be more cost-effective and then, of course, we also want to look at options to reduce property tax and other expenses that are, essentially what I deem out of control at this point.”

He noted that he’s new to municipal leadership but has “previously been involved from the sidelines in other municipal affairs.”

Christensen is encouraging all electors in Lethbridge to do their research before casting their votes in October. He said, “because this is such a controversial election, I would encourage people to really look carefully at the candidates for council and mayor and really consider who they are and what they’re really representing coming forward. “

“This particular election has been very controversial with all the issues that we’ve been facing as a community, so I would really encourage people to make a very calculated and informed decision about who they chose for our city’s leadership going forward.”

General voting day for the 2021 municipal election is October 18.
