1,401 new COVID cases across Alberta Friday

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Alberta Health Services has released its report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,401 cases were confirmed across the province. That brings the total to date to 256,985 with 13,495 cases being active and 241,100 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 137 people tested positive with 17 in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, two Albertans died from COVID including one from the South Zone. To date, 2,390 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was from a resident from Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 515 patients are currently hospitalized including 118 who have been admitted to intensive care.

91.5% of cases were unvaccinated or diagnosed within two weeks from the first dose immunization date.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

• Calgary Zone – 102,787 cases, 3,803 active
  • 145 in hospital, 37 in ICU
  • 721 deaths (one new)
• Edmonton Zone – 84,692 cases, 3,998 active
  • 168 in hospital, 45 in ICU
  • 1,120 deaths
• North Zone – 30,682 cases, 2,563 active
  • 61 in hospital, eight in ICU
  • 215 deaths
• Cental Zone – 23,515 cases, 1,712 active
  • 72 in hospital, 13 in ICU
  • 183 deaths
• South Zone – 15,273 cases, 1,398 active
  • 69 in hospital, 15 in ICU
  • 151 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of new cases in the South Health Zone:

• Lethbridge – 5,256 cases (17 new), 211 active, 40 deaths
  • West Lethbridge – 1,958 cases (seven new), 85 active, four deaths
  • North Lethbridge – 1,722 cases (five new), 59 active, 11 deaths
  • South Lethbridge – 1,573 cases (five new), 65 active, 25 deaths
• Medicine Hat – 2,578 cases (57 new), 569 active, 31 deaths (one new)
• Brooks – 1,657 cases (nine new), 92 active, 15 deaths
• Lethbridge County – 1,374 cases (eight new), 64 active, 14 deaths
• Cardston County – 1,216 cases (11 new), 143 active, 22 deaths
• M.D. of Taber – 665 cases (six new), 73 active, six deaths
• Cypress County – 521 cases (nine new), 92 active, one death
• County of Warner – 494 cases (one new), 16 active, three deaths
• M.D. of Pincher Creek – 415 cases (five new), 43 active, five deaths
• Fort Macleod – 350 cases (four new), 25 active, six deaths
• County of Newell – 295 cases (five new), 30 active, three deaths
• County of Forty Mile – 175 cases, 13 active, three deaths
• Crowsnest Pass – 100 cases (two new), eight active, one death
• Waterton – Seven cases, one active, zero deaths
