Taber man arrested for allegedly throwing hatchet through window, fighting police

Sep 3, 2021 | 4:42 PM

TABER, AB – A man from Taber is facing numerous charges following an incident at the end of last month.

At approximately 9:00 pm on Tuesday, August 31, Taber Police Service (TPS) was called to a home on reports of a man committing mischief.

Allegedly, the man had thrown a hatchet through a living room window and also damaged a fence and the window of a vehicle.

When officers arrived on scene, they say the man was operating a motor vehicle near the home.

The emergency lights on the police vehicle were turned on and the man reportedly exited the vehicle and walked away from the officers.

“The male then became combative and attempted to strike the officer,” reads a media release from TPS. “A struggle ensued where both the male and the officer ended up on the ground. The male managed to climb on top of the officer moments before a second officer arrived on scene.”

A taser was used on the suspect but officers claim he continued to resist arrest before eventually being apprehended.

Jordan James Sargeant, 35, of Taber is charged with five counts of mischief, impaired operation of a conveyance, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, criminal harassment, trespassing at night, and three provincial traffic offences.

Following a bail hearing, Sargeant was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.
