Try-outs for Lethbridge Lightning hockey team start Sept. 14

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Lightning hockey is set to make its return next month.

The senior AA team’s season opener is set for October 16 at Nicholas Sheran Arena. To prepare for the year, the team will be hosting open try-outs at the ATB Centre, starting Tuesday, September 14.

All players from 18 to 40-years-old are invited to attend. The Lightning compete in the Ranchland Hockey League (RHL), and the team’s season will consist of 20 games with 10 at home and 10 on the road. It also consists of playoff and provincial games to wrap up the year.

This season, the RHL will consist of six teams, including the AAA Innisfail Eagles.

Open try-outs for the Lightning will take place as follows:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 9:30 to 10:30 – Conditioning
  • Sunday, Sept. 19 from 7:15 to 8:45 – Intersquad Game
  • Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 9:30 to 10:30 – Skills
  • Saturday, Sept. 25 from 8:00 to 9:30 – Intersquad Game
  • Tuesday, Sept. 28 from 9:30 to 10:30 – Skills and Selection

Early bird entry player registration is $80 (prior to Sept. 7, 2021). Early registration includes a chance to win one of two CCM Jet Speed sticks (valued at $149 each). Registration includes a limited-edition Lethbridge Lightning practice jersey and socks to keep. The price for registration after Sept. 7 is $100.

Those interested in signing up can do so by downloading medical, release and registration forms from the Lightning’s website. Once sign-up is completed, forms can be sent, along with an e-transfer to lethbridgelightning@outlook.com.
