1,510 new COVID cases confirmed in Alberta, 146 for South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Alberta Health has released its report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,510 cases were confirmed over the past day, bringing the total to 264,564. Of those, 15,977 cases are active while 246,153 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 146 people tested positive with 48 in Medicine Hat, 27 in the M.D. of Taber, and 24 in Lethbridge.

Active infections across the region went up by 37 over the last 24 hours.

Since yesterday’s update, nine Albertans died from COVID including four in the Edmonton Zone, three in the South Zone, and two in the North Zone. To date, 2,434 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

For the deaths in the South Zone, two people were from Medicine Hat, although we are unable to see where the third local death was using AHS’ data.

Provincially, 679 patients are currently hospitalized including 154 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 104,878 cases, 4,417 active
    • 192 in hospital, 43 in ICU
    • 726 deaths
  • Edmonton Zone – 86,973 cases, 4,783 active
    • 228 in hospital, 64 in ICU
    • 1,132 deaths (four new)
  • North Zone – 32,018 cases, 2,900 active
    • 78 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 221 deaths (two new)
  • Cental Zone – 24,597 cases, 2,212 active
    • 102 in hospital, 17 in ICU
    • 190 deaths
  • South Zone – 16,051 cases, 1,636 active
    • 79 in hospital, 21 in ICU
    • 165 deaths (three new)

Below is a breakdown of new cases in the South Health Zone.

  • Lethbridge – 5,401 cases (24 new), 280 active, 41 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,020 cases (seven new), 109 active, five deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,763 cases (eight new), 84 active, 11 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,615 cases (nine new), 85 active, 25 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 2,843 cases (48 new), 586 active, 40 deaths (two new)
  • Brooks – 1,701 cases (four new), 96 active, 16 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,416 cases (eight new), 93 active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,273 cases (eight new), 152 active, 22 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 756 cases (27 new), 141 active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 579 cases (eight new), 114 active, one death
  • County of Warner – 508 cases (three new), 27 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 434 cases (five new), 47 active, six deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 376 cases (six new), 46 active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 308 cases (four new), 28 active, four deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 181 cases (one new), nine active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 105 cases, 10 active, one death
