LETHBRIDGE, AB – LPS have arrested a group of people who are allegedly involved in the thefts of several bicycles across the city.

Officers have been investigating a recent increase in bike thefts ranging from cycles being left unattended on the street to more expensive models being taken through residential break-ins.

During a three-day span in September, members of the Property Crimes Unit conducted eight arrest warrants at various homes, leading to the arrests of four people from Lethbridge and a total of 13 charges.

“This PCU initiative was initially focused on specific, high-crime areas identified through data analysis,” reads a media release from LPS. “Lethbridge Police are aware of the impact of such crimes across the city, however, and it is anticipated the long-term investigation will expand its focus to other areas as well.”

Cory Crowshoe, 41, Jimmy Badman, 24, and two other individuals were all charged with theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

Branden Eagle Plume, 26, also faces additional charges of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of an identity document. He was wanted on a number of unrelated arrest warrants.

Jessica Eagle Speaker, 40 also faces an additional three counts of failure to comply with release order conditions.

All four have been released from custody following bail hearings.

Three of them are scheduled to appear next in court on November 24 while Eagle Speaker will return to the courthouse on September 30.
