Sep 11, 2021 | 12:31 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Around 10:30 Saturday (September 11) morning, city police responded to a pedestrian collision on University Drive at Riverstone Blvd. and Macleod Drive West.

A 60 year old female pedestrian suffered serious life threatening injuries and was air lifted to Calgary after initially being taken to the Chinook Regional Hospital.

Officers were on scene investigating the collision and had the North bound lanes of University Drive from Riverstone Blvd. and Macleod Road West shut down for about three hours.

The Lethbridge YMCA has confirmed the pedestrian was one of their volunteers, who was helping prepare a water station for the Len Herring Legacy Ride, a charity event that was being held.

YMCA CEO, Jennifer Petracek-Kolb, released the following statement:

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the volunteer and their family. We will continue to offer our support to them as we learn more about what happened. The YMCA community is close knit, and this terrible event has impacted us all.”

To respect the privacy of the volunteer, the YMCA of Lethbridge will not release further information about the volunteer and is offering support to volunteers and staff who have been affected by this incident.

(The Len Herring Legacy Ride is a family fundraising event for the YMCA of Lethbridge in partnership with the Herring family to honour Len Herring’s lifelong passion for cycling and the Lethbridge community).
