5,283,482 tests have been completed, with 11,880 done on September 13. Province-wide, 2,365,954 people have been tested for COVID-19.

822 people are in hospital, with 212 people in intensive care (ICU).

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, noted that of the 610 people who are not in ICU, 73.5 per cent are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Of the 212 people in ICU, 91 per cent are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

On social media, she said, “viruses are opportunistic and continuously evolve when given a chance to do so. As we have seen over the last few weeks, COVID is gaining strength and we must not let our guard down. Wear a mask, stay home when sick, go for testing when needed and get vaccinated.”

Dr. Hinshaw noted that currently, 79.4 per cent of eligible Albertans have at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. 71.3 per cent are fully vaccinated with two doses.

“We all need to work together to take away COVID’s strength. Vaccines are our strongest ally.”

Doctors across the province are calling on the government to boost restrictions in Alberta.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw has commented that the province’s ‘Open for Summer’ plan to ease COVID-19 restrictions in July was premature and the wrong move. She noted it set the course for the current fourth wave of the pandemic in Alberta.
