LETHBRIDGE, AB – Members of the Lethbridge Family Services Immigrant Services department, are actively engaged in communication with the Federal government and other stakeholders in Alberta and other provinces in preparation for newcomer arrivals.

Afghans will be relocated all across Canada including Lethbridge and Lethbridge Family Services (LFS) anticipates several arrivals in the coming weeks.

Settlement manager Savanna Prociw says they are grateful to be a part of this project.

“We stand ready to welcome all refugee newcomers that will be making Lethbridge their new home this year, and in years to come. Refugee newcomers receive comprehensive wraparound supports from both Lethbridge Family Services and other community service providing organizations to ensure they feel supported and welcomed as they become acquainted with their new community.”

“We also welcome and encourage the wider community to become involved with newcomers by extending warm welcomes to our new neighbours.”

Those that are relocated in Lethbridge will be assisted in securing safe and affordable housing.

LFS will help newcomers with finding jobs and integrating them into society.

For inquiries about how you can volunteer with newcomers, or if you are interested in renting a home to a newcomer family, please email lfsisadmin@LFSfamily.ca.

The Federal government says over 3,700 Afghan individuals have arrived in Canada so far.

“Sixteen communities are currently resettling newly arrived Afghan families across Canada, with over sixty percent slated to settle in Ontario. At this time, approximately fifteen individuals have arrived in Edmonton and fifty individuals have arrived in Calgary,” the release reads.
