Lethbridge Police Service Run goes virtual for 2021

Sep 17, 2021 | 11:02 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service Run has switched to a virtual format.

This comes after the province’s announcement on new health measures due to surging COVID-19 case numbers in Alberta. The Police Run was set to take place in-person this Saturday, September 18.

Instead, participants have three options to get involved. All money raised from the event goes directly to local Special Olympic athletes.

OPTION 1

Participants are being encouraged to still run, albeit virtually (no set times and no set course). They can post pictures and any other messages with their event shirts and medals to show Special Olympic athletes that “nothing is going to get in our way”.

With this option, runners still receive their bib, race shirt, medal and their name will go into a draw from “some amazing random bib draws”.

OPTION 2

Those who have registered can defer their registration for next year’s run through Race Roster. This option guarantees them a spot for next year, and next year’s entry will already be paid for.

With this option, participants will not receive this year’s shirt or medal, nor will their name be entered for the random draws.

OPTION 3

Requesting a full refund is the third option available.

Those who go this route will not receive this year’s shirt or medal, nor will their name be entered for the random draws.

Lethbridge Police stated, “we are deeply saddened to have to cancel this run, especially so close to the date, but safety must be our priority!”

“We want to thank the 400 runners who had registered to date and we want to especially thank the 100 volunteers who were going to come and support this amazing cause.”

For participants choosing to run virtually, package pick-up will be at the same time and location as planned, at the Sandman Signature Lodge (320 Scenic Drive S) on Friday, September 17 from until 6 p.m.

More information about the run is available here.
