TABER, AB – The Town of Taber has appointed a new Chief Administrative Officer.

Derrin Thibault took on the role, effective September 15. The position of CAO had been left open since January of 2021. During the absence of a permanent individual in the position from January, Taber council appointed two Interim CAOs to maintain efficient operations.

Taber mayor Andrew Prokop said, “I would like to thank Gary Scherer and John Orwa for taking on the additional work of Interim CAOs.”

“It cannot be stressed enough that their efforts allowed council to take enough time to find the right individual to fill the permanent position. Acting as CAOs on top of their regular Director duties was no small feat, and it is with extreme gratitude that council recognizes them both.”

On Thibault taking over the position, Prokop stated that council is “very confident that he is the right fit for such an important position, and we look forward to the leadership and vision he will bring to our council, our administration and our community.”

Thibault said he’s excited to help the community in his new role.

“I look forward to working with council, town staff, and the citizens of this community as we move forward with new initiatives and projects aligned with council’s Strategic Plan. I am excited to be part of this community, and appreciate the warm welcome I have received so far.”
