Hurricanes sign goalie Harrison Meneghin

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have added a new goalie to their roster.

2004-born Harrison Meneghin has been signed to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement. The 17-year-old went undrafted in the WHL Prospects Draft.

From South Surrey, B.C., the goaltender appeared in three games during the 2020-2021 season with the Delta Hockey Academy U18 Prep team, where he posted a record of 2-1-0-0 with a 2.59 goals against average and a .925 save percentage.

General manager of the Hurricanes, Peter Anholt said the team is pleased to sign Meneghin.

“We were impressed with him during our camp last weekend and to be able to get him signed and add him to our goaltending depth is an important thing for our organization.”

Meneghin isn’t the only new face signed by the ‘Canes this month.

On September 14, Lethbridge announced the signing of forward Dustin Renas. The 16-year-old was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the fifth round (104^th overall) of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.

He appeared in seven games during the 2020-2021 hockey season with the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA team in the Saskatchewan AAA Hockey League, where he registered one assist along with 14 penalty minutes.

At Lethbridge’s training camp, Renas scored six goals and one assist in eight scrimmage games.

Anholt stated that, “he had a really good camp and we’ve liked his progression from when we drafted him and we are excited about his upside. We are going keep him for the pre-season and get him a few games.”

Nolan Viesner, of Kamloops, British Columbia, has also been signed by the Hurricanes.

The 16-year-old forward went undrafted in the WHL Prospects Draft. He spent the 2020-2021 season with the Yale Hockey Academy U17 Prep program, where he scored six goals and dished out four assists, along with six penalty minutes in five games.

Anholt said, “we were really impressed with him at camp and we are excited about his upside offensively and he’s another great addition to what we think is a really strong 2005 group for us.”

During the ENMAX Training Camp scrimmages, Viesner scored two goals and had two assists before scoring twice in the intra-squad game in a 9-6 victory for Team White.

The Hurricanes split their opening pre-season series against Medicine Hat this past weekend, with a 3-2 win on home ice Friday and a 4-3 loss in Medicine Hat on Saturday, September 18.

There are two more games left on the pre-season schedule, with the ‘Canes facing Red Deer in a home and away stretch this Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25.

Lethbridge starts the WHL regular season October 1 against the Calgary Hitmen at the ENMAX Centre.
