More COVID patients hospitalized now in Alberta than at any other point of the pandemic

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Tuesday, covering statistics from the past three days.

1,336 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 285,046. Of those, 20,304 cases are active while 262,148 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 146 people tested positive with 49 in Medicine Hat and 39 in Lethbridge.

Active infections across the region went down by 56.

Since yesterday’s update, 20 Albertans died from COVID with eight in the Calgary Zone, five in the Edmonton Zone, four in the Central Zone, and three in the North Zone. To date, 2,594 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 1,040 patients are currently hospitalized including 230 who have been admitted to intensive care.

This marks the highest number of COVID-19 patients being in hospital at one time in Alberta. The previous record was on December 30, 2020, when 905 patients were in hospital including 173 who were in ICU.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 110,236 cases, 5,389 active
    • 270 in hospital, 67 in ICU
    • 764 deaths (eight new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 92,513 cases, 5,606 active
    • 347 in hospital, 102 in ICU
    • 1,162 deaths (five new)
  • North Zone – 35,869 cases, 3,663 active
    • 134 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 250 deaths (three new)
  • Central Zone – 28,213 cases, 3,515 active
    • 184 in hospital, 23 in ICU
    • 231 deaths (four new)
  • South Zone – 18,168 cases, 2,114 active
    • 105 in hospital, 26 in ICU
    • 187 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 5,838 cases (39 new), 445 active, 45 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,150 cases (10 new), 130 active, five deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,914 cases (five new), 158 active, 13 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,767 cases (24 new), 153 active, 27 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 3,517 cases (49 new), 673 active, 48 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,831 cases (seven new), 129 active, 17 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,543 cases (seven new), 132 active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 1,410 cases (five new), 125 active, 23 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 932 cases (five new), 177 active, nine deaths
  • Cypress County – 697 cases (11 new), 117 active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 583 cases (eight new), 74 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 497 cases (four new), 62 active, eight deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 424 cases (four new), 50 active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 354 cases (three new), 46 active, four deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 215 cases (three new), 35 active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 120 cases, 15 active, one death
  • Waterton – Seven cases, zero active, zero deaths
