John Barlow projected to be re-elected as MP for Foothills

CROWSNEST PASS, AB – John Barlow is gearing up to start his fourth term in just seven years.

He was re-elected as a member of the Conservatives in Monday’s federal election, serving the southwestern-Alberta riding of Foothills.

“I’m very proud of our campaign team and all the work that we did over the last six weeks. Any time that you can see that you have the confidence and the trust of your constituents, I think, is something to be proud of. Certainly, I think we’ve shown our constituents here that we work hard every day to earn their vote.”

Heading into the campaign, Barlow focused heavily on local issues, saying he wants to prioritize high-speed internet connectivity, rural crime, and post-pandemic economic recovery.

That recovery, according to him, will largely depend on sectors such as agriculture and agri-food, as well as energy.

“Right now, we are basically moving forward on a credit card economy. We need to be on a paycheque economy where Canadians are back to work, our small businesses are back on a firm footing, and getting our economy back up and running – I think that’s very important to our rural communities.”

Barlow says he has quite a diverse riding with many residents differing on several issues, but the one thing that he heard from nearly all of his constituents was a feeling that the 2021 federal election was not necessary, especially when there are so many other pressing issues to deal with already.

While the official election results will still take some time, here are the unofficial vote counts for Foothills:

  • John Barlow (Conservative) – 69%
  • Michelle Travel (NDP) – 11%
  • Daniel Hunter (PPC) – 8%
  • Paula Shimp (Liberal) – 7%
  • Josh Wylie (Maverick) – 4%
  • Brett Rogers (Green) – 1%
