Jeff Carlson running for re-election on Lethbridge City Council

Sep 26, 2021 | 6:00 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Jeff Carlson is hoping that his experience on city council will allow him to stand out amongst the 31 others vying for a seat.

He says his time on city council has been wonderful, and that is why he wanted to run again.

“I guess the main reason is I still have a passion for this work. I’ve got good experience in municipal politics and I think that’s going to be very important.”

Of the eight current members of council, only four are running to keep their seats this October.

Carlson told LNN that it is great to have new, fresh perspectives on local issues, but the city will also need to have those with the know-how of municipal politics and processes.

If he were to be re-elected, some of his main priorities would be to continue the work they started pre-pandemic.

“There’s lots of work we left unfinished. The pandemic and social issues crept up and put council in other directions, so I would like to get back on track. Really near and dear to my heart is the airport management and redevelopment of the airport lands – that’s a top priority for me, as is economic diversification.”

Carlson says there will also need to be a higher focus on making the community more resilient, fiscally and otherwise, to ensure it can handle any future pandemic waves, climate change, and other pressing issues.

Prior to general election day on October 18, there will be three weekends of advance voting:

  • October 1, 2 – City Hall (Downtown)
  • October 8, 9, 10 – Exhibition Park drive-through (East)
  • October 14, 15, 16 – ATB Centre (West)
