Sep 27, 2021 | 11:11 AM

OTTAWA — Rookie quarterback Caleb Evans will get the start Tuesday night when the Ottawa Redblacks host the Edmonton Elks.

Evans was listed as the starter on the depth chart the Redblacks released Monday. Ottawa (1-5) comes into the contest riding a five-game losing streak.

Edmonton (2-4) comes off the bye week, it’s last game being a 37-22 home loss to Winnipeg (6-1) on Sept.18. Rookie Taylor Cornelius will make a second straight start for the Elks.

He was 19-of-33 passing for 243 yards and three interceptions against Winnipeg. Incumbent Trevor Harris (neck) was on the six-game injured list for that contest and resumed practising Saturday but won’t be on Edmonton’s active roster Tuesday night.

Veteran Dakota Prukop will serve as Edmonton’s backup versus Ottawa.

Dominique Davis started Ottawa’s 24-7 home loss to Hamilton on Wednesday night, completing six-of-14 passes for 68 yards and an interception before suffering a hamstring injury.

Veteran Matt Nichols came in and was seven-of-10 passing for 68 yards before also being injured (neck/shoulder) in the fourth quarter, That forced Ottawa to finish the game with Canadian receiver Nate Behar under centre as he completed the only pass he threw for a three-yard gain.

The six-foot-two, 207-pound Evans signed with Ottawa in December 2020. He threw for 9,520 yards and 58 touchdowns with 34 interceptions in 42 games at the University of Louisiana Monroe.

Evans also added 2,162 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns.

With both Davis and Nichols on the six-game injured list, rookie Taryn Christion will serve as Evans’ backup. Neither Evans nor Christion were in uniform against Hamilton.

Ottawa’s lone win of the year was a season-opening 16-12 decision in Edmonton.
