AHS reports 1,630 COVID cases, 17 deaths Friday

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Friday, covering statistics from the 24 hours.

1,630 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 299,802. Of those, 20,215 cases are active while 276,856 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 154 people tested positive with 29 in Lethbridge and 26 in Medicine Hat. The numbers for the latter city are far lower than we have seen in recent months.

Active infections across the region fell by 22.

Since yesterday’s update, 17 Albertans died from COVID including six in the Edmonton Zone, five in the Central Zone, three in the Calgary Zone, two in the North Zone, and one in the South Zone. To date, 2,731 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

The death in the South Zone was for a resident of Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 1,066 patients are currently hospitalized including 263 who have been admitted to intensive care.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone in Alberta:

  • Calgary Zone – 113,690 cases, 4,834 active
    • 284 in hospital, 91 in ICU
    • 783 deaths (three new)
  • Edmonton Zone – 96,027 cases, 5,080 active
    • 316 in hospital, 115 in ICU
    • 1,195 deaths (six new)
  • North Zone – 39,013 cases, 4,015 active
    • 149 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 271 deaths (two new)
  • Central Zone – 31,255 cases, 3,995 active
    • 186 in hospital, 18 in ICU
    • 273 deaths (five new)
  • South Zone – 19,767 cases, 2,273 active
    • 131 in hospital, 27 in ICU
    • 209 deaths (one new)

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone. The numbers in brackets show new cases or deaths over the past 24 hours:

  • Lethbridge – 6,153 cases (29 new), 477 active, 45 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 2,244 cases (13 new), 139 active, five deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 2,039 cases (11 new), 175 active, 13 deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 1,860 cases (11 new), 160 active, 27 deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 3,929 cases (26 new), 620 active, 58 deaths (one new)
  • Brooks – 1,972 cases (17 new), 173 active, 19 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 1,678 cases, 178 active, 14 deaths **
  • Cardston County – 1,560 cases (14 new), 178 active, 25 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,043 cases (10 new), 169 active, 11 deaths
  • Cypress County – 761 cases (seven new), 106 active, four deaths
  • County of Warner – 635 cases (five new), 79 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 539 cases (six new), 62 active, eight deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 459 cases (four new), 48 active, six deaths
  • County of Newell – 397 cases (five new), 59 active, five deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 278 cases (seven new), 79 active, five deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 129 cases (one new), 12 active, one death
  • Waterton – Seven cases, zero active, zero deaths

** Numbers for Lethbridge County do not appear accurate, as the total case count on Friday is lower than what AHS showed on Thursday, yet the number of active cases increased.
