Where and when to vote in advance polls and on general municipal election day in southern Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Eligible electors in Alberta head to the polls for the municipal elections later this month.

General voting day is Monday, October 18. However, citizens have the opportunity to vote beforehand in advance polls in jurisdictions across the province.

Below is a listing of where and when you can vote in advance across southern Alberta.

LETHBRIDGE

Advance polls open at Lethbridge City Hall at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, and close at 8:00 p.m.

In total, there will be eight opportunities for citizens to vote in advance over the course of three weekends in Lethbridge.

The City Hall polls will be open Saturday, October 2 as well, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additional advance polls will be available for electors:

  • October 8, 9 and 10 – Exhibition Park’s Outdoor Kiosks (drive-through)
  • October 14, 15 and 16 – ATB Centre
  • All polling stations open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

General voting day in the 2021 municipal elections is Monday, October 18.

There will be 14 voting stations across the city and new for this year is the option for eligible voters to cast their ballot at any polling station in Lethbridge. On October 18, stations will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Elections Lethbridge will also set up voting at 21 designated institutions, which include assisted living facilities, hospitals and seniors’ residences. Those unable to attend a polling station in person can contact Lethbridge 311 by Friday, October 15 to make alternative arrangements to vote from home.

The City of Lethbridge noted that election results will become officials on Friday, October 22 at 12:00 p.m. For further details on voting in Lethbridge, visit the city’s website here.

COALDALE

In the town of Coaldale, polls will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Coaldale Community Centre on October 18.

Advance polls will be open, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the same venue (1217 – 20 Avenue) on the following dates:

  • Saturday, October 2
  • Tuesday, October 5
  • Saturday, October 9
  • Thursday, October 14

On general voting day, institutional voting will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Sunny South Lodge (1122 – 20 Avenue). This service is available for residents of Sunny South Lodge only.

For those who cannot attend a polling station in person due to a disability, options are available as requested and pre=scheduled during the hours of the Advance Voting days listed above.

TABER

Advance polling dates in Taber are as follows, with all votes cast at the Taber Community Centre (in the Auditorium):

  • Thursday, October 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 9 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 12 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 14 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Polls will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on October 18 at the Taber Community Centre (in the Auditorium).

Those who are physically unable to attend a polling station can arrange to vote in their home.

The town will be hosting voting stations at a number of institutions, as well. Voters who live in these locations will be visited by election workers on October 18. The service will be available to residents in the following facilities:

  • Clearview Lodge
  • Lindenview
  • Taber Hospital

Voters who have tested positive for COVID-19 or are in isolation can contact the town’s Returning Officer to discuss their voting options.

FORT MACLEOD

In Fort Macleod, advance voting will take place:

  • October 5 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • October 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Both advance and general election day voting will take place at the Fort Macleod & District Community Hall (301 25 Street in Fort Macleod). On general voting day October 18, polls will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

CROWSNEST PASS

Advance polling in Crowsnest Pass will take place Tuesday, October 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Elk’s Hall (2025 – 129 Street in Blairmore).

Eligible electors can apply for a special ballot package if they cannot vote at the advance polls or on general election day because of:

  • Physical incapacity (including those that are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or other illness, those in quarantine, immunocompromised individuals or others wishing to abstain from in-person voting due to COVID-19), or;
  • Absence from the local voting jurisdiction, or;
  • Being a returning officer, deputy returning officer, constable, candidate, official agent or scrutineer located at a voting station other than the one designated for their place of residence.

Electors who meet that criteria can apply for a special ballot any time until the closing of voting stations on Election Day.

For the October 18 general voting day, polls will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  • Subdivision A: All electors from Coleman. Voting Station: Crowsnest Pass Sports Complex, 8702 – 22 Avenue, Coleman
  • Subdivision B: All electors from Blairmore and Frank. Voting Station: Elks Hall, 2025 – 129 Street, Blairmore
  • Subdivision C: All electors from Bellevue and Hillcrest. Voting Station: MDM Community Centre, 2802- 222 Street, Bellevue.
  • Institutional vote will occur at Crowsnest Pass Health Centre, Tecumseh Apartments, Westwind Apartments, and York Creek Lodge.

PINCHER CREEK

The Town of Pincher Creek only has one advance voting opportunity for residents.

That is October 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 962 St. John Avenue.

For the October 18 general voting day, electors can cast their ballots from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 962 St. John Avenue.

CLARESHOLM

The Town of Claresholm will not have any advance voting days. On general election day October 18, residents can head to the polls at the Claresholm Community Centre (5920 8 Street W.) from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

LETHBRIDGE COUNTY

Lethbridge County has announced that advance voting will be available at the following dates, with both sessions held at the Lethbridge Administration office at #100, 905 4 Avenue South:

  • Wednesday, October 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On general election day October 18, polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Division you residen in determines where you vote. Voters can cast their ballots here:

  • Division 1: vote at either Gem of the West Museum (1306 – 20 Street, Coaldale) or Diamond City Community Hall (310 Underwood Avenue, Diamond City)
  • Division 2: vote at either Gem of the West Museum (1306 – 20 Street, Coaldale) or Diamond City Community Hall (310 Underwood Avenue, Diamond City)
  • Division 3: must vote at Gem of the West Museum (1306 – 20 Street, Coaldale)
  • Division 4: must vote at Diamond City Community Hall (310 Underwood Avenue, Diamond City)
  • Division 5: vote at either Gem of the West Museum (1306 – 20 Street, Coaldale) or Diamond City Community Hall (310 Underwood Avenue, Diamond City)
  • Division 6: vote at either Gem of the West Museum (1306 – 20 Street, Coaldale) or Diamond City Community Hall (310 Underwood Avenue, Diamond City)
  • Division 7: vote at either Gem of the West Museum (1306 – 20 Street, Coaldale) or Diamond City Community Hall (310 Underwood Avenue, Diamond City)
